  • In a article he recently wrote he eluded to a prior situation between astros owner Draytom Mclane and Bud Selig... he didnt really give frame of reference.. can anyone give me the jist of what that situation was? Here is the exert from the article

"""Say, I wonder if he's(drayton mclane) back in Bud Selig's good graces yet? If you close your eyes, you can probably hear their conversations.

Please, commissioner, I didn't mean it that way. You know how the media distorts everything.

Stop crying, Drayton. Where's your dignity?

Please, commissioner, pretty puhleeze. Forgive me. I promise never to sign another free agent or draft pick ever again. I'll cut the payroll today if it'll make you love me again.

Yes, friends, two old friends got put out with one another about that whole Milwaukee thing. Someone -- I'm not saying who but he lives in a place where brats and the Packers are popular -- took more of the blame than he should have. Someone else -- that would be a tall Texan -- might have left out some of the details in his re-telling of the story to the local media.

Memo to Hendricks Brothers: Drayton probably can't go high because there's a risk with Andy and because this is going to be The Winter of Sucking Up to Bud and Making Him Love Me Again. """

  • Probably the relocation of two Cubs @ Astros games to Milwaukee in September (due to a hurricane), wherein the Astros went 0-2 with one hit. Note that what were putatively two Astros "home" games had a severely reduced gate income (though two games in Houston, which was not ready to support or attend games, would have done at least that badly if not worse) and clearly were in hostile territory (Milwaukee is about 90 miles from Chicago) despite claims of neutrality.

And McLane whined about it a bit.

Suck it up, Drayton. Playing in Miller Park isn't what made the bats you pay for completely forget how to hit the ball. It was far from an ideal situation (hurricanes never help out, do they?) but the circumstances can bear only so much blame for the team's two-game flop.
