Awesome, No
Fast, not really
Because of absurdly high fuel taxation. The cars Ford sells in Europe are built to cater to the European people's needs. Those needs are small size and fuel efficency. Since Europe has much high population density than North America, you can get away with a small car since the 10 hour road trip to grandma's house is unheard off other there. Everything is alot closer together. And for distances longer than an hour or so by car, they have an excellent rail system. Over here in the U.S. we tend to drive more often and over long distances, so naturally we want bigger cars with more power. With the exception of a very few models (Focus RS ,and the Mondeo 220) Ford's offerings are small, slow, and overpriced (compared to what they sell in the U.S.) Very few Americans are willing to plop down $25k for diesel Fiesta no matter how nice the interior is. And why would they when you can get a larger V6 Fusion for the same price?
Only of more recent years have you even looked at "compacts", that are still considered big cars elewhere.
So only now the squeeze has been on re costs of fuel and pollution control, that the more efficient smaller vehicles have been able to make significant inroads into the market.
