02 Honda Civic EX, heater fan blows but no hot air?

Posted in: enart.nnmj.com Date: March 14th, 2010

  • I've got an 02 Honda Civic EX and the heater fan (dial type) works from low to fast settings but there is no hot air pushed through any of the vents regardless of where the air is directed to flow (defrost, face, feet, etc).

Engine coolant is at normal levels and I don't think it's a thermostat since there is no overheating of the engine. Any suggestions for trouble shooting or possible suggestions on the problem would be appreciated.

  • A past owner did not maintain the cooling system and your heater core is clogged. It is the mini-radiator that is inside the car. If so, it will need thoroughly flushed. I'd probably take it to an import shop and ask for a radiator clean and backflush. Or you can get a bottle of prestone cleaner and the radiator flush kit and try it yourself.

One other possibility, check the cable from the heater control to the firewall inside the engine compartment. Have a friend move the heater control from hot to cold and back. This cable moves the valve that allows hot water to flow through the heater core. It may have been knocked off at some point. It looks something like this: a hose or two and a cable attached: http://www.craig-ultima.com/images/2005-...
