How long are emails kept at your ISP?

Posted in: enart.nnmj.com Date: March 14th, 2010

  • Can I get emails from early 2005 to prove a court case? AOL was the ISP

  • If you delete them (with my provider) they ask if they can remove / clean out, all deleted mail older than 30 days - I get this message every month and I assume they are sent into cyber space never to be seen again -

  • Hi,

If you're still with them and still have the account active then the emails tend to stay until you delete them, but as you say 'AOL *was* the ISP' then I'd expect they were wiped as soon as you closed the account. Unfortunately AOL didn't really have any constructive means of backing-up old emails either so I'm afraid you will have lost them for good...

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
