When I start my car the dashlights and light on radio come on as expected but immediately dim where I cannot see any of the gauges on the instrument panel and the light on the radio is very faint. I have noticed that during the day the lights work normal but when my headlights are on, the dashlight fades and i have to use the light from my cell phone to read the gauges. This happens intermittently and I believe it is when my headlights are on because i noticed one night after i shut my car off and i was sitting in my car talking on my cellphone that after my headlights automatically shutoff than my dashlight and radio light would kick on so that is when i noticed the dashlight not working when my headlights are on. Is there a specific switch or sensor that might be the culprit and can be replaced? Another problem that may or may not be related, my high beams will only work when I hold them on. I know i need to buy a new headlight switch but i havent had the time or money and i can make do with normal driving lights and have been for a long time but now this new problem comes up which is more annoying and inconvenient
**I have already checked the fuses AND the dimmer switch dial. Turning the dimmer switch dial does nothing when the dashlights are out....so these two suggestions have already been tested and ruled out**
This is a 2002 Chevy Impala. Any help is very much appreciated....THANKS in advance!!Sounds like your ALTERNATOR is on it's last leg......Get it checked out for output. You need to have a free charging system test performed on that vehicle bec it sounds like the battery or alternator is faulty I suspect it's the voltage regulator actually. On some vehicles the voltage regulator is inside the alternator on others it's external or in side the main comp=TCM but it also could be as simple as a loose alternator belt too.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way when the head-lites are on at night and dash lights low if you accelerate the idle do the dash lights become brighter? If so that's a sign that indeed it's the voltage regulating circuit or bad alternator or loose belt.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
