This is a question for "athiests". why were you born? why are you here, and where are you going?

Posted in: enart.nnmj.com Date: March 11th, 2010

  • What is your purpose for existing? and what is the point of living and enjoying life if there is no life after death which there is. so since you so not believe the Great Almight God, Heaven and hell and you think when you die you cease to exist what are you doing here then? Is not your meaning in this life usless? Like you are just existing and that is it. Just a walking time bomb getting ready to die anytime. Gee that sounds very dark to me. so tell me why are you just a walking time bomb so when you die you do not exist anymore? walking death I call it. You see as a christain I have hope and faith unlike many. And yes I have had many experiences with the supernatural like you would never understand. You see a mere mortal cannot understand anything that is bigger than they are. Christains what do you do about these people? do you encourage them and if you do and they ignore you do you ignore them and think o well they are hell bound or do you persist without being pushy.

  • I was born to continue populating the Earth, a human instinct. I'm here because i was born and i'm going to get a beer tonight.

My purpose for existing? Survival. Why not enjoy life if we have life? Why do we need to have two lives to enjoy this one, you're not making ANY sense.

When i die i cease to exist, yes. That's why i'm enjoying it while i can and making the world a better place for future descendants of humanity as much as a i can. Try telling that to Einstein, we'll see where relativity sits at if he decided his life was useless.

Walking time bomb getting ready to die anytime, you're just delusioned and refuse to accept that you will leave this world. We will all die because life is not eternal.

Experiences with the supernatural? Ohh noo i'll tell you i've seen chuck norris and that round-house kick is DIVINE.

A mere mortal cannot understand anything bigger than we are? We've studied the Earth, we've documented thousands of species of animals and studied them, we have space-craft that travel beyond that of our habitat, we made it possible to simulate environments and grow crops, we genetically modified animals and plants, we made places previously impossible for human inhabitation safe to live in. There are many other examples like medical breakthroughs. These scientific improvements did not come just because scientists prayed.

They put effort in finding, testing their hypothesises, and proving their theories to the world.

And I'm telling you, without science, you could have died at the age of 10 with the flu just like people did in medieval times. You're taking science for granted and praying to what will not save us.

Your purpose, being worshipping your god, does not help humanity in any way. It does not bring new drugs and medication to the world, it does not cure cancer, it does not ensure the continued survival of humanity for years to come.

Your purpose is a meaningless purpose, one that will do nothing to help us, to help mankind.

  • There is no reason to believe in life after death. There is every reason to believe in a complete conscious cessation when the brain dies.
What you should ask yourself is why you need to desperately hope for a better 'next' life. Is this one too dark and 'real' for you to accept? I believe everyone needs hope and aspiration in order to live a fulfilling life, however, the religious crutch should be seen as a self-delusional pacifier for those who fear to truly experience life.

  • You have my pity. Apparently you have no life outside the hate and bigotry that is your religion.

What you should do is follow the teachings of the man your religion is based on.

Did Jesus tell you to go out in the world and spread hate and bigotry?

Did Jesus tell you that the dumber you are the quicker you will be saved?

Did Jesus tell you that you have the knowledge of who is going to your "hell" and who is not?

Did Jesus tell you that you must also teach bigotry and ignorance to your children?

Did Jesus tell you that you should ignore common sense when it is obvious the buy-bull is nonsense?

I say, Jesus please protect me from your rabid followers. If you are a loving example of your religion, I will pass.

  • Frankly, I have been happier and with greater mental health since ceasing to be a Christian.

Are there mysteries in life? Of course.

Point-of-living questions are really just like argument from design questions--they involve an infinite regress.

What is the point of life after death? What would the point of eternal life be? What is the point of god's "life"? At some point one has to reach a terminus, but there is no logical reason to put that point anywhere. Just as the multiverse could be self created and sustaining--so could our life be its own point without analyzing it further.

If we cannot learn to "live life on its own terms", how are we going to handle eternal life?

  • This isn't really a question is it? It's just you telling people what you think they should think. I'm not an atheist, but here is what i think in case you actually read and try to comprehend someone elses beliefs: Why was a born? I don't know so why make up a reason. Why am I here? I don't know so why make up a reason. Where am I going? Soon I will be going to sleep... after that I will go to work... and when I die I will be going.... I don't know so why make up a place. I imagine it will be much like it was before I was born... remember that? Me too. Enjoy life while you're living.

  • It's something called "carpe diem"....sieze the day. Enjoy life for the moment, if you can, because we ( as a "people") do not fully understand what happens "after". Your here, enjoy it. You've only got "one" life, and just to let you in on a little secret....I don't know/ remember anything from before my birth. I won't know anything/ remember anything when I die. This life isn't a "game" that you are given a set of rules for. We grow, we learn, we die.

  • They get the brainwashing going early, don't they?

Happy, productive, fulfilled, joyful people don't have to have a 'reward' in heaven for living life to its fullest. They just do it for its own sake.

It's an even greater incentive to make the most of our time here BECAUSE there's no other opportunity. This is not a rehearsal. Grasp it now, or fritter it away on your knees, the choice is yours.

  • # 1 - To annoy you .
    # 2 - To annoy you .
    # 3 - To the weekly christian baby roast and orgy want to tag along ?

  • I am here enjoying THIS life, not engaging in some childish wishful thinking of some other fantasy world, with pearly gates and streets of gold, nor worrying about childish boogyman stories of a lake of fire, demons and pitchforks. That worked when I believed in Santa.I'm grown now, have no time for wishful thinking.

What are YOU doing here.Heaven awaits, this world is ruled by the invisible boogieman in the closet you children call Satan. Why are you here? What "purpose"do YOU have?To despise this life,be afraid of the boogieman tripping you up,so that in the end,you get to spend eternity worshiping and kneeling and groveling at the feet of the "master"while almost everyone you loved is in fiery torment? You kid,are not moral nor righteous. You are a sniveling wimp, willing to trade all decency and concern for others just so long as YOU can be your "masters" little lap dog.How utterly morally repugnant

  • 1. To crap.
    2. To give you crap.
    3. Going to crap even more.

  • quote:"and what is the point of living and enjoying life if there is no life after death"

    You said it yourself

  • The only difference between you and I is that you are unable to accept your own mortality. You believe that unless you are immortal that this life is not worth living. You suffer from delusions that allow you to actually think that you have experienced 'the supernatural' when what you don't even understand what is natural is actually very super in its own right. It's kind of too bad that your faith and hopes based on lies and false promises cause you to fearfully imagine that you're immortal. If this imagination works for you, fine, but please don't allow it to cause you to judge other people who accept this temporary existence for what it is. Hell and heaven are childish concepts that appeal to people who are gullible and easily susceptible to fear tactics. I'd rather try to learn to appreciate and come to terms with my mortality than allow others to manipulate my thinking through childish lies.

And, calling people ignorant for merely disagreeing with you is very immature and indicative of a weak personality.

Addition: I just received the below message from the questioner and I thought Iâ ™d share it because it demonstrates the level of ignorance and arrogance of this moron. Perhaps this dolt should put down the Buy-Bull once in a while and pick up a Spelling or English book. After acquiring a sixth grade level reading competency, perhaps he might move on to a book on critical thinking. Perhaps the brainwashing was just too successful and he will remain in his secluded little bubble of ignorance until he dies and nothing happens. His writing is pathetic, but actually quite humorous. They wonder why we laugh at them. This is one of the reasons.

Message: â œyou call me delusional? ha I think you should have a look at yourself. I am not delusional infact I know what is the truth. Jesus is the way truth and the light. Try telling other athiests this who have been to hell after being resusitated after they were declared dead and then gave their hearts to Jesus. God is not mocked. But on the other hand God laughts at all the proud like you. You will be very suprised when you die where you will ned up. and they way you are going it will not be very nice. You will endeed reap what you sow. Just because you have not seen God does not mean he does not exist.â

  • Doesn't your God teach you to Judge not lest you be judged? Is not one of His teachings to Love thy neighbor as you love yourself? Isn't another of His teachings Do unto others as you would have others do unto you? You say that you are a Chrsitian, yet your words and actions here imply that you have rejected His teachings. If you reject His teachings, do you not also reject the Teacher?

What do you know of Buddhism? You know that we do not believe in the existance of a God or gods, correct? You also know that because of this we are atheists, right?

I was born, again, because I have not attained Enlightenment. If I believe that, then I must, then, believe that I have lived before. If I believe that I have been reborn, and will continue to be, until I attain enlightenment, then that must imply that I do believe in life after death.

No I am not existing and that is it. I exist to work towards enlightenment. I work to help make those around me suffer less from my words, actions and thoughts.

As Buddhists we believe that you can live the life that makes you happiest, and we encourage you to do so. Though your beliefs are different from ours, we hold no ill will toward you. Perhaps in your next life you will begin to open your mind and your heart to all life.

  • Even you and your God couldn't answer your ranty question. Many atheist do believe in an afterlife and souls, ingoramus.

  • Religion vs. Morality

Man cannot escape from the need for philosophy; his only alternative is whether the philosophy guiding him is to be chosen by his mind or by chance.

    --Ayn Rand

In an age of skepticism (certainty is impossible) and nihilism (nothing means anything), many people are desperately searching for a guide to life, a philosophy.

As Ayn Rand wrote in her book Philosophy: Who Needs It: "A philosophic system is an integrated view of existence. As a human being, you have no choice about the fact that you need a philosophy. Your only choice is whether you define your philosophy by a conscious, rational, disciplined process of thought and scrupulously logical deliberation -- or let your subconscious accumulate a junk heap of unwarranted conclusions, false generalizations, undefined convictions, undigested slogans, unidentified wishes, doubts and fears, thrown together by chance."

Instead of turning to reason, many are turning to what they think is an alternative: religion. It is easier, and it's what they hear everywhere: Politicians, community leaders, and even professors all tell them that that there is no rational certainty, thus leaving them with the implication that to have principles means to accept religious dogma.

Religion is a primitive form of philosophy because it attempts to provide a theory of the nature of man, man's place in the universe, and a guide to human action. But religion admittedly has no rational basis, meaning: no basis at all. "Faith" is merely someone's assertion (without evidence) that something is true. As a "guide" to life it couldn't be more dangerous. And it is becoming an increasing danger to Americans as the 21st century opens. The religious right's efforts to enforce religion and destroy our rights is all around us: laws preventing abortion and assisted suicide, censorship, school prayer in public schools, laws against homosexuality, laws mandating the teaching of "creationism."

The threat to turn America into a semi-theocracy is no longer the exclusive province of the conservatives. The left wing, the "liberals," have abandoned even a lip-service advocacy of reason. All the current presidential candidates are either kowtowing to religion or fervently supporting its role in politics.

This Web site explores these issues. It shows the dangers of the religious right and religious left, and it shows how anti-American is this increasing political power of religion. This site also contains information about a rational philosophy, one consistent with the love of liberty on which this country was founded. That philosophy is Objectivism, a philosophy for living on earth.

  • ".why were you born? why are you here, and where are you going?"
well, my mom liked my dad, my mom liked my dad, and eventually I am going to the grave.

"what is the point of living and enjoying life if there is no life after death"

Wow, do you really need an eternal afterlife to make sense of this one? I pity you.

"What is your purpose for existing"
objectively, to reproduce. subjectively, lots of things, life is fun.

"you think when you die you cease to exist what are you doing here then"
again, life is fun, plus all you mammals are entertaining.

  • to be free from religion.

  • 'THE MEANING OF LIFE' IS TO 'GIVE LIFE MEANING'

there is no purpose of existing . it just is. So while we are here, might as well make the most of it. Help people. make the world a better place. We create our own standard of morals. Which is usually much stricter and higher standing than religious morals.

You deligate the important works to a God. WE TAKE it in our hands and actually DO IT.

  • well well well, firstly, you can't even spell atheists, and secondly, I'm really proud that we deserve apostrophe's...I feel so proud! I have a few hard truths for you:
You waste this life, denying every human natural impulse of enjoyment, in an effort to get your soul into heaven, you deny yourself sexual pleasure with the one/many you may love in a lifetime, if you are not in a marriage, although, whoops, you've probably fornicated just like us sinners. You pretend that your moral standards are so high and mighty, that you look down upon people who enjoy themselves, or tell funny jokes, because it's ungodly, but deep inside, you're laughing like hell...Me, I am who I am, I say what I really mean, and NEVER betray my true self to appear another way to other people. I don't treat the people in my life like ****, then go beg forgiveness on a Sunday, and have my slate wiped clean for the next week, I don't pour money into the churches coffers, to assauge my guilt and guarentee my place at the right hand of a fictional character? I'm good to people because I have decided that that is the best way to live my life, not for fear of the punishment I'll receive if I don't. I live life with zest, energy and hope, for me the glass is always half full! I love life! I would certainly not describe myself as a walking time bomb, any more than you are... As for your experiences with the supernatural, lay off the LSD, I know you have your "get out of jail free" card to play on Sundays, but that **** fries your brain. As for being surprised when I die, I wish I could say the same to you, but guess what, shock, shock, horror horror, you won't be anything but maggot food.

  • Animals of all sorts live without the prospect of life after death.

Why does there have to be life after death for me to enjoy my life?

  • get off your high horse & polish the saddle a bit.why do we not understand any thing to do with the supernatural.i was born because my married parents had sex.are you still with me.you have hope & faith, well i am happy for you.apparenty some christains wonder what to do with all the non believers who have a life unlike some.
